Heping (Peace Island)
During our visit to nearby Keelung we visited one of the most popular points on the island , a place called Yeliu. Yeliu is along Taiwan's northern coast and is a sea park filled with unique rock formations. Unfortunately it was also filled with about a million Mainland Chinese tourists and locals which lessened the appeal of a stroll along the coast...even in the fog and mist. SO instead we drove up the coast about 10 KM to Peace Island ..just a 50 meter bridge away from the mainland... which has many of the same interesting formations with 95% less people. We had a nice stroll and even saw a puffer fish in the tidal pools. Here are some pictures
Night Market Taiwan Style
When Taiwan expats go overseas what they inevitably miss most is night market food. In Northern Taiwan one of the most famous night markets is in Keelung...the port town about 45 min north of Taipei. When I first lived in Taiwan I had a night market in front of my apartment building every Friday night. They are cacophonous, crowded affairs filled with all sorts of foods, games for kids to play, cheap junk and clothes from China. They are essential Taiwan... Even though my patience for them is low at this stage...becoming more of a misanthrope with age......we took a walk through the one in Keelung...pretty much to say we did...It's all about the experiences after all. Here's a video....so you can enjoy it without getting bumped and pushed
